Andrea ble uteksaminert fra Norges Teaterhøgskole i 1998, og har siden opptrådt både på Det Norske Teatret og på Nationaltheatret. På Nationaltheatret har hun hatt roller som "Juliet" i Shakespeares Romeo og Juliet, og "Hilde" i Ibsens The Lady from the Sea. I 2000 mottok hun Anders Jahres kulturpris for unge kunstnere. Hovig har også spilt i filmer og på TV, som De 7 dødssyndene og "Berlinerpoplene". Hun er samtidig sanger, og har spilt i musikalen Chicago, og gitt ut sitt eget album.
