Pontus Wernbloom spelar fotboll i den Grekiska klubben PAOK. Pontus moderklubb är IK Kongahälla. Därifrån fick han till IFK Göteborg 2005. Redan efter sin första säsong var han känd för sin tuffa spelstil med mycket tacklingar och kroppskontakt.
2009 gick Pontus Wernbloom till AZ Alkmaar. Därefter gick han till CSKA Moskva där han spelade till han flyttade till PAOK i grekiska ligan.
