Career: Ray Von was a DJ and handyman at the Phoenix Club. The character was played by Neil Fitzmaurice and one of the important characters of the British sitcom, Phoenix Nights. One of the catchphrases of Ray was “Shabba!”, which was usually shouted during a disco. Because of his skills and talent in being a DJ, he was given the nickname “The Yorkshire Rapper.”
Early life: Ray joined the club when he fixed the power cut for the first time. The owner of the club, Brain Potter, recognized his skills, hired him as a handyman and as a DJ. He was also the subject of a prank played on Brian Potter by Les and Alan, the club’s backing musicians.
